strength

My help and glory are in God

–granite strength and safe harbor God—

So trust him absolutely, people;

Lay your lives on the line for him.

God is a safe place to be.

Man as such is smoke,

Woman as such, a mirage.

Put them together, they’re nothing;

Two times nothing is nothing

And a windfall, if it comes—

Don’t make too much of it.

God said this once and for all;

How many times

Have I heard it repeated?

“Strength comes

Straight from God.”

Psalm 62: 7-12 (the Message)

 Last night reading in my room I heard a voice from down stairs.  It was Page and Jimmy.  “We’ve come to help your sister move out.”  “Wow,” I said, “I didn’t even know that you were coming over.”  Page said: “Yeah, we just thought we’d help out.”  …we spent the next four hours together moving and packing boxes and furniture in trucks and a van…  All this and no one even asked for Page and Jimmy’s help.  My heart is greatly warmed.  Is this not a grace?  We would’ve worked for hours in excess without their help.  Thank you Page and Jimmy.  I’ve been thinking about the concept of grace recently, and it’s a word that I want to know more and more about.

Philip Yancey writes:

Perhaps I keep circling back to grace because it is one grand theological word that has not spoiled.  I call it “the last best word” because every English usage I can find retains some of the glory of the original.  Like a vast aquifer, the word underlies our proud civilization, reminding us that good things come not from our own efforts, rather by the grace of God.  Even now, despite our secular drift, taproots still stretch toward grace.  Listen to how people use the word….

            Another piece of Grace in my life is the help I received from Randy and Tim and giving this blog a proper tune up.  They prayed over me and that the living waters of God will flow freshly through, like artisan springs, giving life to those who read these pieces of my thought.  I repeat these prayers as I type into this screen.  These men asked for nothing in return but free of charge and compassionately helped me in these times when actually I’ve been struggling.

            In my search for myown power and strength, I am reminded by Jimmy, Page, Randy, and Tim that grace can give us strength.  That it is from God that we get strength and power.  Though there are times in life when we will be knocked back on our heals and rocked to the core, we find our footing on the solid foundation of Jesus Christ.  He is our safe place.  It is worth it to lay our lives wholly and utterly at His feet.  How many times must I be reminded that true strength comes from God.  How many times will I need to hear this…  Over and over again.

    Hi Gavin, Thank you for sharing this transparent message. Real relationships happen when we are transparent. As I read what you wrote, I had tears in my eyes, thankful for God’s amazing grace. Keep sharing daily. This will bring healing to you and others. Blessings, Randy
